Kailash Manasarovar Tour
The sacred mountain of Mt. Kailash, located in western Tibet, stands tall at an impressive height of 6741 meters (22028 feet). Believed to be the physical embodiment of the mythical Mt. Meru, it is considered the most sacred mountain in the world by followers of several religions. Hindus believe that Kailash is the abode of Shiva, while Tibetans refer to it as Kang Rimpoche. Jains see it as Mt. Ashtapada, the place where their religion's founder, Rishabanatha, achieved spiritual liberation. And to followers of the ancient pre-Buddhist religion of Bon-Po, Kailash is the soul of Tibet.
In addition to its spiritual significance, the region surrounding Mt. Kailash is known for its stunning natural beauty. The mountain is surrounded by two high-altitude lakes, Mansarovar and Rakshesa, both of which are known for their turquoise blue waters.
Every year, thousands of pilgrims make the journey to Mt. Kailash, following a tradition that dates back thousands of years. It is believed that circumambulating the mountain on foot is a holy ritual that brings good fortune. Hindus and Buddhists typically make the pilgrimage in a clockwise direction, while Jains and Bönpo followers go counterclockwise. The path around Mt. Kailash is 52 km (32 mi) long, and the journey can be physically challenging, but for many, the spiritual rewards are well worth the effort.
