Chulu West Peak Climbing
Chulu West Peak climbing one of the popular trekking in peak Annapurna region, Two Chulus (East and West), Chulu west is the higher Peak. It was first ascended in 1952 by a Japanese Expedition. The base camp of this peak is situated in a small valley north of Manag, off the main trail to the Thorang La (5416m). There is a controversy regarding the name and location of the Chulu Peaks, there are several peaks close by and are also a part of Chulu massif but are not indicated in the map. Thus it is difficult to differentiate between the two Chulus. Chulu west may also be called an Chulu Central. There is no technical difficulty in ascending this peak but the progress can be slow as the slopes are vulnerable to avalanches in certain conditions.
Chulu West Peak Climbing commence from Beshi Sahar after 5-6 hour drive from Kathmandu. The district headquarters of Lamjung a neighboring district of Gorkha. From Beshi Sahar the trail leads up slowly towards Manang valley, one of the highest valleys of the world situated at an altitude of 5000m. One-day rest will be set to explore the Manang Valley and for the acclimatization. From Manang valley the route heads north to lead and on to the Chulu West Base camp. Three days are set aside for the ascend of this peak and you head to Thorong-La and follow the same route come back to Katmandu as in the “Around Annapurna trek. Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu transfer to Hotel
Day 02Free day in Kathmandu for climbing preparation / Overnight at Kathmandu
Day 03Drive from Kathmandu to Chamje (1410m) via Besisahar (823m.) follow the narrow and paved road by the Marshyangdi River it takes almost 6-7 hours, and stay at teahouse lodge
Day 04Trek from Chamje to Dharapani (1960m) which takes 5/6 hrs. / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 05Trek from Dharapani to Chame (2675m.) which takes 5/6 hrs. / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 06Trek from Chame to Pisang (3100m.) which takes 5/6 hrs. / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 07Trek from Pisang to Manang (3440m.) which takes 5/6 hrs. / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 08Rest day at Manang and hang in and around town. Rest and acclimatization day before peak climbing / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 09Trek from Manang to Yak Kharka (4350m.) the trail ascends gently all the way to Yak Kharka passing through the Gunsang (3960m.) village which takes 4/5 hrs. / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 10Trek from Yak Kharka to Chulu West Base Camp (4700m) you ascend the rocky and dry land all the way which takes 4/5 hrs. / Overnight at tented camp
Day 11Trek from Chulu West Base Camp to Chulu West High Camp. The path is steep up all the way which takes 3/4 hrs. / Overnight at tented camp
Day 12Trek from High camp to summit the peak and back to high camp which takes 3/4 hrs. / Overnight at tented camp
Day 13Trek from high camp to Yak Kharka which takes 3/4 hrs. / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 14Trek from Yak Kharka to throng phedi which takes 3/4 hrs. / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 15Trek from Phedi to Thorong-la (5416m) passes and spend night at Muktinath which takes 8/9 hrs. / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 16Trek from Muktinath to Kagmeni to Jomsom (2720m) / Overnight stay at teahouse lodge
Day 17Fly or drive from Jomsom to Pokhara and transfer to hotel/rest or free day in Pokhara for personal activities / Overnight in Pokhara BB Basis.
Day 18Rest day in Pokhara or free for personal activities- or Fly / Drive back to Kathmandu
