The Bara Pokhari Trek is a newly-opened trekking destination in Nepal with fewer visitors than more popular areas such as the Mount Everest and Annapurna regions. This trek travels through lush green forest and offers fantastic views of Manaslu, the eighth highest peak in the world.
This trek starts from the village of Archalbot/Phalesangu. From there, we travel upward through the paddies and terraces of Gurung Gorge to the Tamang community of Purano Dobar, an area noted for its cultural heritage. From here, we proceed to Bara Pokhari Lake, a lake felt to be the source of exceptional power by local magician doctors. Above the treeline, marvelous panoramic views of the Himalayan Mountains are visible including Annapurna to the west and mighty Manaslu in the Langtang Himal to the east. We continue on past Himal Chuli (7,540m) camping at 4,200m. From here, we descend to the valley floor travelling between the terraces, farmsteads and rice paddies over the lands of Nam Pokhari.
