Khaptad National Park

Khaptad (225 sq Km) is an isolated massif reaching 3100m; it lies in far western Nepal south of the main Himalayan chain. Beautiful oak and rhododendron forests cover the slopes and the rolling plateau on top consists of coniferous forests interspersed with grasslands. There is an interesting variety of bird species present, including the satyr tragopan pheasant and great parrotbill. The meadows are covered in a mass of flowers in spring and summer. Khaptad is nationally renowned for its medicinal herbs.

The park boasts of 224 species of medicinal herbs and 270 species of birds. The common bird species in the national park are Impheyan pheasant, partridges, flycatchers, bulbuls, cuckoos and eagles. Animals found in the park are barking deer, wild boar, ghoral, Himalayan black bear, yellow throated marten, rhesus monkey and langur monkey. National park also offers pilgrimage at Tribeni on the way to its headquarters. There are several historical temples surrounding this area and an annual celebration of Ganga Dashhara is held here on jestha purnima.

For SAARC Nationals, Rs. 100/- per person
For Other Foreign Nationals, Rs. 1000/-per person

Access:
The easiest access is to fly to Dipayal or Chainpur or Sanfebagar or Kolti from where it is a few days hike to the national park. It is also possible to drive to Silgadi from Dhangadi. The best time to visit Khaptad is in March and April and in October and November. Travellers should hike with camping equipment, food and guides.

 

Khaptad National park Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan Intl. Airport and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day free.

Day 02: Breakfast Transfer to domestic airport. fly over the Mahendra Nagar, Lunch Walk along a clear trail to the park at Jhigrana [4 hrs] Night stop at Jhigrana, Dinner [Dal-bhat-tarkari tipical Nepali's foods supply by our staffs] 

Day 03: Breakfast Trek start from Jhigrana to village Chorpani [3 hrs] Lunch,Trek to  Chorpani to Khaptad National Park back to Chorpani and over night at camp. 

Day 04: National Park Program end Back to Jhigrana about 7 hour's trek Night stop at Jhigarana 

Day 05: Break fast Walk 3 hrs from Jhigrana to Mahendranagar airport Fly back to Kathmandu Overnight at hotel
